For the love of Thrifting

For the love of Thrifting

Over the past few months, I have been compiling a pile of new home decor pieces and I finally decided it was time to stop hoarding them and show you! I originally planned to make a blog post about this but decided to turn it into a YouTube video. It had been so long since I uploaded a video and I figured it was time. But of course, right after I filmed the video I went out shopping and found wayyy more things that didn’t make it into the video.

I mentioned in my Five Happy Things post that Adam and I dropped off almost five bags to donate at Value Village. But what I didn’t mention is that when we dropped all our stuff off, they gave us a 30% off coupon as a thank you! I practically ran into the store to find some treasures. Some days I don’t find anything thrift shopping, but on this particular day, I found tons.

Although these items didn’t make it into the video I still wanted to share them because I plan on doing a little bit of a #thriftflip (as TheSorryGirls say) with some of the items I found.

I normally don’t buy pillows at the thrift store, but I made an exception for these two. They were $9.99 each and in perfect condition! The pattern and colours work well with our living room, and even if I get bored of them I can definitely just cover them up with a different pillow cover.

Adam and I both have a thing for globes. We already own one, but when I saw this one I snatched it right up. It was $2.99 and on the smaller side. I can’t decide if I’m just going to leave it as-is, or if I want to attempt to paint it and make it look like one of those beautiful hand-painted globes that are all over Pinterest.

TheSorryGirls are a Toronto based, DIY duo that have an amazing YouTube channel. Their ideas are always so cool and original! I never miss a video. When I saw this tray it reminded me of their #thriftflip video and I knew that I had to try it out for myself. The tray was $1.99 and I can’t wait to make it into something beautiful. Say goodbye to that ugly pattern…

I bought these brass candlesticks for $2.99, and the bird bookend for $3.99! I really want to build up a collection of various brass candlesticks to use for either a centrepiece for a dinner party, along a mantelpiece, in the bathroom for a glamorous bathtime glow. The bird bookend also brings a little bit of glam to our typical black IKEA bookcase.

This last piece is different from what I usually would pick. I saw it on the shelf and thought it would be kind of cool to bring home because the pattern is really lovely and the colours are bright and remind me of summer. I wouldn’t normally pick something like this up, but I actually really love it! I think I’m going to paint the frame white to brighten it up a bit, but otherwise, I love how quirky it is. And you can’t beat $1.99 for a piece of art.

I thought I’d share these as well because I have been on the hunt for copper/rose gold measuring spoons and cups for ages and can never find them anywhere! I picked these up at Michaels for about $20 total and they are definitely good quality. Kind of a random item to include, but if you’re on the hunt as well check out Michaels!

If you take a look at the things I included in the video, and the items I picked up at the thrift store you can get a pretty good idea of my style. It’s a mix of trendy accessories, with traditional touches to create a slightly eclectic feel. I love mixing textures, styles and pieces together to create something unique!

Check out the video to see what items I’ve been collecting for the past few months:

How would you define your style?
