The holidays are a lovely (and stressful) time of year. There are gifts to buy, houses to decorate, meals to plan and all those costs add up.
I think it’s really important to set boundaries for yourself and your spending at this time of year so you don’t regret anything come January; there’s nothing worse than feeling guilty about doing a nice thing for a loved one. But having a budget in mind doesn’t always mean compromising when it comes to finding that special gift.
To make your life a little easier, I went online and found 9 items that I would personally love to receive! There’s a wide variety of prices to suit every budget and even though I’ve labeled this post as a gift guide for interior designers, I think these gifts would be great to give a wide variety of people.
01 | Collect
A gift that keeps on giving! I think a year’s subscription is the perfect gift. It’s always fun getting something special in the mail, and House & Home has been my favourite home magazine since 2006 (No joke, I still own a copy of the 2006 June issue because I love it so much). And when the year is done, they’ll have a chic set of magazines to display on their coffee table.
02 | Style
These signs from West Elm would look beautiful on a shelf, desk, bar cart, nightstand… okay, pretty much everywhere! It would also make a really pretty paperweight. My favourite at the moment is the “Cheers” sign because I think it would look really cute on my bar cart.
03 | Organize
Seagrass baskets are really in right now because of the natural texture and shape. I have three of these baskets from IKEA around my house and love using them as decoration and organization. We currently have one under the bench in our hall for hats and mitts and another under the tree for gift-wrapping supplies!
04 | Plant
This planter from Structube is amazing! I love the contrast between the black metal legs and gold pot. Plus, it’s only $25.00 and you can order to any store for free! At that price, you can also hop over to your local flower shop and find a plant friend to match. Ps: I love this thing so much that there is one on route to my house as we speak… oops!
05 | Light
These Foxhound Collection candles are always on my wishlist. They’re handmade in Nova Scotia with high-quality ingredients like 100% soy wax, essential oils and cotton wicks. With a wide variety of scents, there is something for everyone. This Balsam candle sounds like the perfect wintery scent.
06 | Drink
This gift would be perfect for the host or hostess in your life. This 4 piece brass set would be effortless to style on a bar cart and is perfect for all those holiday parties! It’s the perfect present for someone you want to treat this year and the timeless design will last forever.
07 | Cozy
This faux fur throw is currently on sale for $49.99! This price is such a bargain. A classic faux fur throw is comfort and luxury all in one: a staple for any living room! In fact, I’m thinking I’m going to have to add it to my list — the winter in Ottawa is already pretty chilly (-23 with the windchill tonight — eek)
It wouldn’t be a Sincerely, Rowan blog post if I didn’t include something gold from H&M Home. I love using trays to decorate my coffee table or to organize items on my desk. The detail around the edge is really pretty and gives it a vintage feel without the need to trek through a thrift store (unless you want to of course).

Another one of my favourites! Emily Henderson is one of my all-time favourite design bloggers. Her styles are quirky and fresh and she encourages people that it’s possible to decorate on any budget. This book will be a go-to source for inspiration.
