While I was planning my blog posts for this week, I sat down and thought about how wonderful it would be if one of these five happy moments would be about the election. I felt a sense of relief hoping that we might finally be able to erase the past few years of Donald Trump headlines from our mind and enter a new era with a female President. But on Wednesday, myself and the rest of the world, woke up heartbroken and scared. The shock hasn’t completely set in, and I’m still waiting for someone to scream ‘just kidding.’
In the light of the election, I think it’s important to remember that there are still good people in the world. Our next step is to come together to spread positivity, respect, and love. To put aside our differences, and be united because no one knows what the next few years will bring. In the great words of Albus Dumbledore:
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
So let’s turn on the light. Here are five of the happiest moments of my week!
BlogJam Atlantic 2016!
I went to my first blogger event! How do I even begin to describe BlogJam? BlogJam is a conference for bloggers from all over Atlantic Canada. We met to discuss our #goals for the future, learn about monetization and blog design and get to know each other! I finally got to meet and talk to some of the incredible people I’ve been
stalking following on social media for the past few months. The community out here is amazing. Everyone is so kind and supportive! I can’t wait to collaborate the amazing people I met. If you’d like to see what went down, check out my twitter moment!
I finally did a calligraphy class! I’ve been following a local calligraphy artist on Instagram for a little a while and found out that she teaches beginning calligraphy classes in Dartmouth. The class was early on a Saturday morning, and the whole experience was incredibly soothing. Now don’t get me wrong, calligraphy is hard! I always thought of calligraphy as fancy writing, but it’s not like writing at all. Every single stroke is slowly and carefully thought out, and it’s more like painting than writing. After the class, I went to an art store and bought a couple brush pens and paper to practice. It’s been a great stress reliever. There’s another tick off my bucket list!
Planning for Europe!
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it on the blog, but I bought my ticket to Europe! I am flying to London, England at the beginning of June and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m starting to plan the specifics of my trip and spent some time with my friend Patrick at a cafe chatting through my plans. I’ve been scouring Pinterest for ideas and have already found a couple Airbnb places to stay. I’m itching to travel! All this planning makes the trip feel even more real.
This week was our first reporting week for my journalism school. We are in charge of our online news publication, The Signal! It’s so hard getting in the mindset of turning over news this quickly, but I think I’ll get the hang of it soon enough. I’m just proud of myself for turning out two stories in 24 hours! It was a stressful couple of days, and there is lots more work to do. Check out our website to see what we’re up to.
A relaxing evening!
This brings me to tonight. I’m currently watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with pizza and pink lemonade. What could be better? I’ll finish the night off with a face mask and a warm bath. A much needed pamper session after a long week.
I feel so grateful at the moment. Reading through these happy moments makes me feel like we can get through this trying time. If you’re feeling afraid because of the election results, take a look at this article my friend Jen wrote and know that you are not alone. If you need a friend, send me a quick message!
Please let me know what makes you happy this week down in the comments!
Sending all my love.
Sincerely, Rowan xo
