Five Faves | October

five faves

I feel like it’s been a while since I sat down and just wrote about the things I’m loving. Monthly favourites videos and blog posts used to be such a normal thing for bloggers to put out and I feel like ever since blogging became this overproduced money-making career option people have stepped away from the casual lifestyle content that started the whole industry. Some of my favourite bloggers are bringing the old ways back and I’m totally on board.

I’m not exactly sure what happened to October but Halloween is tomorrow and then it’s time to flip over my calendars. These are a couple things that stood out as favourites this month.

01 | Flannel Sheets

We switched our sheets out as soon as the weather started to turn (it was probably even a little too early if I’m honest) but these days nothing beats climbing into flannel sheets after a chilly day. We bought our set a couple years ago at Walmart and they’ve worn in beautifully. The cold seasons in Nova Scotia can feel a little damp and I find that nothing keeps me warm like flannel! These are a must if you’re perma-cold like me!

02 | Podcasts

When I’m at home I really just like to put on a playlist on spotify and listen to music while I putter around, but I much prefer podcasts for walking to work and running errands out of the house. I walk to work every day and listening to podcasts makes me excited to get out the door. My favourites are “At Home With” by Lily Pebbles and Anna Newton, “On the Line” with Estee Lalonde, “The Great Indoors” with Sophie Robinson and Kate Watson-Smyth, and “Goal Digger” by Jenna Kutcher. I’m always looking for more shows to listen to, so if you have any lifestyle or interior design based podcast recommendations, send them my way!

03 | Gilmore Girls

I think if Adam comes home while I’m in the middle of another GG episode he might unplug the TV! There’s something about Autumn that makes me want to curl up for hours and pretend I live in Stars Hollow. I think I’ve already been through the entire series about 3 times but I still enjoy every episode just as much (if not more) as the very first time I watched it. In my opinion, it’s a timeless classic.

04 | Harry Potter

At the beginning of the month, I spent the weekend with the whole Morrissy family to celebrate my Grandma’s 80th birthday. As it turns out, the entire family is pretty obsessed with Harry Potter and I spent a lot of time watching the movies with my cousins and chatting with my little sister about our favourite moments in the books. When I got home, I immediately pulled all of the books out of one of our last remaining boxes and started to re-read the series for the millionth time! I’ll never get bored of exploring Hogwarts and following along with the magical adventures.

05| Mac & Cheese

Mac & cheese — or just pasta in general — has been a major weakness of mine this month. I’m constantly craving comforting warm foods and should probably make a conscious effort to eat more veggies after the month I’ve had. My favourite quick guilty pleasure is the Annie’s gluten-free mac & cheese and we’ve had it well stocked this month. I also made a huge batch of homemade bolognese sauce that we’ve been enjoying for the past few days and I’ll be really sad when we’ve finished it all. Does the cold weather make anyone else crave carbs? I really hope it’s not just me!

It feels nice to sit down and write a really quick and casual blog post. It’s been a while and I quite miss it. If you miss this side of blogging like me please let me know! Maybe I’ll make this into a monthly segment.

Hope you’re well.
