We had a couple of great days in Athens, but now it’s time to board a plane and move onto our next destination: Santorini! As cliche as it might sound, I’ve been wanting to go to Santorini ever since I saw “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” because Lena was always my favourite character! To maintain that excitement as we go through security, here are a few things I like to do to keep the stress levels low before we take flight.
I know a lot of people that really hate flying because the process of going through customs or even being in the air makes them feel anxious. I totally get it! While I can’t exactly help minimize anxiety completely before I board a plane, there are some things I can do to prepare myself so I feel organized and ready for anything.
01 | Keep documents together
Having a document folder was one of my essentials in my last blog post, but I can’t stress enough how good it feels to have all documentation (passports, tickets, frequent flyer, health card) together at all times. It makes flying less stressful because you never have that “omg! I lost my passport” moment even if your passport is in your hand — I do this ALL the time.
02 | Indulge in some Me-time
Planes are great places to think because you’re essentially cut off from the world for a few hours. Use this time to do the things you never have time for. Maybe that means turning off the in flight entertainment and reading a book or catching up on podcasts. I’ve also found that journaling on a long flight is a great way to reflect and check in with yourself. If you enjoy this time you’ll walk off the plane feeling so refreshed.
03 | Wear comfortable clothing
I’m not saying be a slob (even though I’m so guilty of doing this), but wearing your most comfortable jeans and a soft shirt will make all the difference if you have to be sitting down for hours. I also like to bring a big scarf to use as a pillow or a blanket if it gets a little chilly, and always bring socks to wear so my toes don’t get cold.
04 | Pamper yourself
I’ve seen so many people talk about doing this and I think it’s a great idea! While you’re sitting on a plane, why not put on a soothing face mask and have a little pamper session? The air can be so stale and dry that taking time to take off your makeup, do a face mask and moisturize will leave you feeling fresh and clean no matter how long the flight is. I would also suggest bringing a toothbrush and toothpaste so you can clean your teeth before landing. We took care of our mind with our me-time, so why not take care of our skin too?
05 | Try to sleep
Sometimes sleeping on a plane is really easy for me and sometimes I can’t shut my eyes for even five minutes. Once you’ve had a chance to listen to a podcast and do a little face mask, grab your eye mask, ear plugs and get some shut eye. You’ll be thankful for the rest later. Plus, it passes the time on those really long flights!
06 | Stay hydrated
When you’re on a plane it can sometimes feel like all the energy and moisture has been sucked out of you. If you can only manage to prepare one thing for your flight I would highly recommend having a water bottle on hand. Fill it up before you board the plane and try to drink the whole thing while on board. It will make you feel so much better!
I hope these little tips helped you prepare for an upcoming flight! Next time we talk, I’ll be in Santorini! If you’d like to follow along on our European adventure, follow along with our vlogs on my YouTube channel!

These are great recommendations, Rowan!! I want to try a face mask on a flight so bad, but I am such an awkward human I don’t know if I could.
