We haven’t done anything to our bedroom since moving in and it’s driving me crazy! Our ‘furniture’ consists of a mattress on the floor and some makeshift nightstands. No matter what I do the room always looks messy and I think it’s time for an update. New Year, New Room?
I’ve been really loving simple black iron bedframes. There’s something cozy and humble about them that makes me think of a cottage. I think it would be perfect in our narrow space because the lean headboard and footboard will save us a lot of space. The black is simple and minimal which leaves room to experiment with the duvet cover and sheets. Right now, we have simple IKEA bedding but I kind of want to step it up a notch once we have all the furniture.
It’s quite an expense paying for a full bedroom set. The bed we want is the Gwen bed from Structube in a queen size and I love the price! For our bedside tables, I think I’m going to re-buy the classic HEMNES nightstand by IKEA. I had one of them in Halifax and really liked it, but we sold it along with all our other furniture. At $69.00 a nightstand, it’s a really affordable option and I think they match the simple style of the bed we’re looking at too.
I’m still on the hunt for lighting because our bedroom doesn’t have any overhead lighting and I ran out of lamps! The surface of the HEMNES nightstands is quite small so I like the idea of using plug-in sconces like these ones from Amazon.
Once we tackle the main problems (bed, nightstands, lighting) I want to take some time and find new pillows for us. I read somewhere that you’re supposed to replace your pillows once a year and we definitely haven’t done that in about two years… We also need a new set of white sheets and a duvet cover! I’m basically replacing everything except our mattress. These things will come with time.
For now, if I can get my mattress off the floor that would be a miracle. Follow along for more of the transformation and send me your favourite affordable duvet covers! I need some inspiration.
